When did you realise you had a passion for fitness

I would have to say when I started investing in myself and obtained various fitness certifications. Exercising has always been a part of my life.

What advice would you give to anyone wanting to become a personal trainer

My advice would be to shadow an experienced personal trainer for a few weeks. Be sure to pick their brains during that time.

What is one of the biggest myths about the fitness industry?

That fitness has to be strict and life suppressing. Many fitness enthusiast look great and enjoy some of the tastiest foods.

What is a typical day like for you in your job?

A typical work day for me starts with morning training sessions followed by online program designs and any administration task. Then I take a gym/lunch break before my evening training sessions begin in the late afternoon.

How often do you workout by yourself?

Personally, I workout 3 to 6 times a week. It really depends on what I am training for or how I need to adjust to life.

What is your favourite workout move?

Great question! If I have to choose one, it would have to be barbell back squats. I like movements that requires multiple muscle groups.

What is your least favourite?

I am not a fan of crunches

How long does it take to become a master trainer?

It varies with organizations and experience, but I qualified in 4 years and then completed the Master Trainer Program approximately 6 months after.

What has been your proudest moment as a master trainer?

When one of my clients lost 70 plus pounds and watching her quality of life enhance. She found confidence, fell in love, and received a few promotions. I am still quite proud of her.

What advice would you give to anyone who’s given up and feels there is no point in getting fit?

Revisit your “why” remember the reason you want to get fit and just start moving. You do not need to know where you are heading, you’ll figure that out during the process.

What would a cheat day meal look like for you?

I don’t suggest “cheat days” because they often offset workouts by creating a caloric surplus. However, my ideal cheat meals rotate between barbecue, tex-mex, hot-wings, and pizza.

What foods/drinks do you insist we should all avoid?

Sugary drinks and foods that are prepackaged for a quick convenience. Those items do not have our best interest in mind.

What is your favourite fitness quote?

“Health is Wealth” I love that quote because many forget that they can’t go to work and make a living if they are ill.

 

What is the minimum amount of time you can get away with for working out

Depends on the intensity and modality but 20 minutes should be the least amount.

Are there any workout moves one can do lying in bed?

If a person is physically disabled or morbidly obese, yes there are moves to help initiate activity. Various arm and less raises are examples.

Which do you prefer your online workouts or one on one training

Hard question because they are very different in my opinion. I really enjoy online workouts because I am able to work from anywhere and help people from all over the world. Back in America, many of my in-gym clients became friends and family. So I enjoy the flexibility of online workouts and I also like the personable relationships created with in-gym training.

Who is your fitness guru?

I actually don’t have one, I tend to gravitate towards literature about health and fitness versus people.

How much impact does healthy food play in terms maintaining a hot body?

A HUGE impact because often our bodies tell the story of the foods we eat and the lifestyle we’ve chosen. Nice cars require premium fuels, same goes for our bodies.

What is the one tech item you can’t live without?

My MacBook Air is the tech item that I use the most. I work from it, study, and use it to speak with my friends and family back home.

What  are the one pair of shoes you can’t live without?

At the moment, I am a big fan of Nike Trainers. I probably wear them almost everyday!
